Senior Political Advisor to the Honourable Prime Minister and Chairman of MIDA
Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA)
Tengku Zafrul Aziz is currently the Chairman of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Senior Political Advisor to the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
He had served as Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry (MITI) (December 2022–December 2025), and Minister of Finance (MOF) (March 2020 – October 2022), after spending 22 years in banking and finance.
At MITI, he drove manufacturing growth, trade expansion, and investment attraction, while spearheading major policies including the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP2030), the Chemical Industry Roadmap, the ESG Industry Framework, the National Semiconductor Strategy, Green Investment Strategy, and Circular Economy Policy Framework. During his tenure as MITI Minister, Malaysia recorded its highest ever approved investment figure at RM378.5 billion (2024), and trade at RM2.879 trillion (2024), as well as jumped 11 notches to rank 23rd in the World Competitiveness Ranking 2025.
